A Small Update
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. February 16, 2015-- It was a busy day of passing league action in sunny Southern California on Monday when the B2G Elite 16 7v7 Tournament was held at JSerra Catholic High School. The competition was fierce, with 18 of the top club passing league teams in the state in attendance, along with media and scouting outlets like ESPN, Rivals, Scout, 247 Sports, and Bleecher Report, all skillfully documented by the pros at Under the Radar Sports Media.
The round robin tournament saw most of the top level teams’ play each other over the daylong event, with the team comprised of JSerra Lions looking especially sharp! I guess when you take some of the hardest working, most competitive and driven young men in the county, and the 2014-2015 Orange County Coach of the Year, Jim Hartigan, and his offensive mastermind Sergio Muniz leading them you should expect as much. The day was an amazing display of intense sunshine and perfect weather, but even the brilliance of the California sunshine was eclipsed by the highlights displayed through the athleticism and speed of standout junior (2016) Isaiah Diego-Williams, he was a man among boys on Monday. With IDW leading the way, the receiving core and DB’s showed tremendous preseason development. The Lion’s skill guys showed off their lock-down coverage ability and precise route running against stiff competition. Lions demonstrating our competitive advantage were Connor and Riley O’Brien, Avery Williams, Brad Anderson, Nathan Bowman, Nick Callen, Michael Zabran, and Conner Hartigan, to name a few, the Lions proved to be too much for any of the Elite Club Teams to defeat, although one team was able to manage a tie score. When JSerra took the defensive side of the ball, something became crystal clear, underneath crossing routes, challenging the JSerra Linebacking Corps, is inadvisable at best, and may prove truly hazardous once the pads come out, with Kyle Adams, Danny Khouri, Corey Selenski, Angelo Pacheco and Ryan Hickey roaming the middle you'd better keep your head on a swivel, even in "no contact" drills. Somehow every time a receiver got close to Adams he seemed to fall down,,..,hard. It was no coincidence slot receivers, tight ends, and players releasing from the backfield developed the dropsies and caught very few balls against the thick neck guys. Even with all the positives enumerated above, one major question remained for the JSerra Lions, would we be able to find a suitable alternative for the Trinity League Co MVP, Perennial Black Shirt earner, consistent Hatigan’s Hero, and newly minted Georgia Bulldog, Nick Robinson? Well it looks like we are well on our way, and an exciting take away from this day of action for the JSerra Lions had to be the promise of the outstanding young quarterback squad, under the tutelage of the illustrious QB coach, and all around character Billy Joe Hobert, Sophomores’ (2017) Riley O’Brien, and Brady Bjorkman, and freshmen (2018) Hunter Bledsoe and Matt Robinson showed the QB options are plentiful. If tough competition produces greatness, we are poised to make a huge splash in the Trinity League, AGAIN. The future is bright for JSerra football, a foundry for young men; forging committed students, dedicated teammates, faithful believers, and compelling characters, making them men to be proud of.
