History
10/2/14
2014 was JSerra Football’s best year ever – an historical season. Led by an exceptional class of 19 seniors the Lions surprised everyone by winning the first five games of the season by averaging over 48 points per game and winning by 31 points on average. This early success was more important since JSerra faced its most challenging pre-league schedule ever, playing the likes of Chino Hills, St. Bonaventure and 2013 CIF Champion Huntington Beach. The Trinity League opening game against Santa Margarita lived up to the hype with the Lions coming back from a 14 point deficit to pull away in the second half for the win. The next week JSerra battled defending National Champion St. John Bosco in what was in instant classic. Both teams traded scores right up the very end, but the Lions fell short by a score of 49 – 44. The Trinity League gauntlet continued the next week with a hard fought win over pre-season favorite Mater Dei by a score of 17-10. This was JSerra’s first win over the Monarchs in football. The Lions then won out the rest of the season with wins over Servite and Orange Lutheran. The 2nd place Trinity League finish and a 9-1 regular season record ensured the Lions their first CIF playoff birth. After beating Corona Santiago in the first round of the playoffs, the Lion’s season ended with a close loss to visiting Bishop Amat. In the end, the Lions finished the #1 ranked team in Orange County, #10 ranked team in California, and the number 71 ranked team in the country (MaxPreps). The future looks bright as well, with a competitive JV team and a Freshman team that won the Trinity League with a perfect 10-0 record.
